A Life Built Like Travel
Make everyday feel like travel, and travel feel like everyday.
I've always loved that idea. Getting off at a subway stop I've never been to feels like travel to me. Reading a book in a café in an unfamiliar neighborhood can somehow feel completely ordinary. Sometimes, a stranger I meet along the way has a better story than anything I could find in a book. And I still love the thrill of following a map to a restaurant I've never tried before.
Beauty, Then Fashion
I loved work almost as much as I loved traveling. For years, I worked in beauty and fashion, the kind of jobs that came with a suitcase always half-packed. Different cities, different time zones, and a slightly different version of myself in each one. I never took those years for granted.
Looking back, I think I've followed what I loved into my work. I was drawn to beauty from a young age, and that interest took me from a part-time job in college to a real career. After I got married and had my twins, I followed a new interest into fashion.
Running on Empty
By then, I was also a mom raising two kids and trying somehow to make everything work. Long commutes, early flights, late nights. I told myself that if I loved my work enough, I could handle all of it.
But my kids were three. Every morning, they cried because they didn't want me to leave. Every night, when I came home, they wouldn't let go of me. Somewhere along the way, I started running on empty.
At some point, I realized I was more tired than excited. So I stopped.
The Part That Was Just Mine
The time I spent with my kids after that was sweeter than I expected. But after a while, I started to feel like something was missing.
It wasn't that I wasn't happy. I was. But underneath that happiness, there was still something I wanted.
Something just for me. Not as a mother or a wife, but simply as myself.
I wanted to feel excited about something again. The kind of excitement that comes before you even know why. It took me months to understand what that feeling was.
Where PageA Began
And then I knew.
Everything I'd learned from beauty and fashion. All those years of living out of a suitcase, while still wanting to carry a little piece of home with me wherever I went. I wanted to put all of that into something of my own.
That's where PageA began.
